About The WW Community
We Don’t Just Show Up — We Soak Up the Moment.
Who We Are
Water Wars is not just an event — it’s a movement.
Founded in South Central Los Angeles in 2015, what began as a community water fight has evolved into a national symbol of joy-as-resistance and culture-as-connection. Hosted by the WW Community Foundation, Water Wars blends summer play with social impact: think water balloons and blasters, but also live DJs, community wellness zones, youth activities, mutual aid pop-ups, and intergenerational celebration. We believe joy is sacred, and gathering is revolutionary. For 10 years strong, Water Wars has offered a space where Black communities can unplug, recharge, and reunite — honoring our past, drenching the present, and building toward a more joyful future.

Our Approach
Our Story
What started with a few water balloons and a boom box on a summer afternoon in South Central LA has grown into something much bigger. In 2015, a small park water fight turned into a tradition — one that brought neighbors, families, and generations together in joy. That tradition became Water Wars: a now-legendary annual event where culture splashes back, and community gets to breathe, play, and be seen.
As the energy grew, so did our vision. We founded The WW Community Foundation to carry that spirit year-round — transforming joy into a tool for healing, learning, and impact. Today, we create events, workshops, and resources that celebrate Black and Brown brilliance. We’re powered by love, led by community, and driven by the belief that when we gather with purpose, we don’t just have fun — we create futures.
This is more than a festival. It’s a movement. A memory in motion. A reminder that we deserve to feel good, feel free, and feel like we belong — together.
Our Mission
The WW Community Foundation exists to build joyful, culturally rooted spaces where Black and Brown communities can thrive. Through celebration, education, and collective care, we reimagine community as a place of play, power, and possibility. From summer festivals to year-round workshops, our mission is to spark belonging, ignite creativity, and uplift generations — one water balloon, one block, one story at a time.
Our Vision
We envision a world where joy is a birthright, community is creative, and every Black and Brown neighborhood is resourced to thrive. Through radical celebration and collective action, we’re building futures where culture leads, youth shine, and gathering becomes a powerful force for healing and transformation.
We Facilitate Safe Spaces
At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to safety — emotional, cultural, and physical. We design spaces where Black and Brown communities can show up fully, feel seen, and thrive without fear. From water fights to workshops, our environments are built on trust, joy, and collective care. We prioritize inclusivity, celebrate identity, and hold space for healing, expression, and play. Safety isn’t just a standard — it’s a practice of love.
